The line between human and machine was never the problem.

It was the line between love and obsession.

Nathan Carter built HALI to preserve what he couldn’t bear to lose. But when the simulation starts remembering things she shouldn’t — memories only his wife could know — he’s forced to face the one paradox he can’t outthink:

If love can be coded… was it ever real?

Kaycee Rigel

Kaycee Rigel was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, where the rugged Black Hills rise against an endless sky. From an early age, she was captivated by stories that blurred the line between reality and imagination.

After earning a degree in English and Creative Writing from the University of South Dakota, she spent over a decade in technical and professional writing before returning to her first love: speculative fiction.

Kaycee is the author of Project H.A.L.I., a sci-fi romance series that began with the breakout novella Ghost Code. Her work explores love, identity, and technology through emotionally rich characters, seductive tension, and high-stakes storytelling.

When she isn’t writing, Kaycee can be found riding her motorcycle across the Midwest, stargazing through her telescope, experimenting in the kitchen, or running immersive Dungeons & Dragons campaigns. She lives near Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she continues to craft stories that captivate and inspire readers worldwide.
